日本人にも英語版がおススメな理由

本屋でこの英語版の本を見かけて立ち読みしたら
ついつい引き込まれてしまい衝動買いをしてしまいました。
そして、結果的にはこれが大正解！

本書を読んだ後日本語版の「世界一やさしい問題解決の授業」も
読んでみたのですが、英語版の方が断然良かったです。
一番大きな違いは、CLASS#2(２限目)での説明の仕方と
CLASS#4(４限目)が英語版で追加されたこと。

CLASS#2については、日本語版は余計な事を書き過ぎのように思えます。
日本語版だと出来るだけ完璧なロジックツリーを示そうとしているように見えるけど、
英語版だと説明に必要な部分をピックアップしていて論点が分かり易い。
あと、日本語版でこの章の最後に取って付けたように出てきたスケジュール表が
英語版にはなかった。
CLASS#2での論点にスケジュール管理がネックになる部分は無かったし、
スケジュール表が無いと達成が困難になる計画でもなかったので、
スケジュール表なんてあっても無くても良い。
そして、本と言う限られたスペースの中に、無くても良いものを書かないでほしい。

そういう意味で英語版の内容は論点が明確になっていて良かったです。
あと、問題解決のために実行するためのアクションを「打ち手」と表現していたけれど、
この用語の存在自体が、まるで問題解決の教科書を読んでいる気分にさせられて
かなり教科書的な雰囲気を醸し出していました。
せっかく子供向けの解説をしているんだから用語もより単純な「アクション」で良いと思うんですよね。
邪推すると、スケジュールの挿入も、打ち手と言う用語の採用も、
既存のビジネス書のスタイルに凝り固まった編集者に押し切られて改悪されてしまったのかもしれません。

さらに、日本語版では意思決定ツールの説明としておまけ的なミニ設定の登場キャラでしかなかったものが、
追加されたCLASS#4で感動的なストーリーに発展しています。
これがまた素晴らしい。
ただ、日本だとちょっと現実離れした設定だとかいう的が外れた非難を受けそうでもありますね。

と言う訳で、英語が多少なりとも分かる方であれば、英語版の方をお勧めします。

This is a short book that you can, even with note-taking, read within a couple hours. (Without note-taking--not recommended!--you could finish the book in about half the time.) If I recall correctly, the book was originally written for children and, while the language isn't juvenile, it's still simple and snappy. Not a difficult read, yet bursting with good advice.

Watanabe lays out numerous simple strategies you can use to solve problems. These range from interviewing a select number of people to create logic trees. He cautions us to think beyond our regular thinking processes, beyond our typical conclusions and our preconceptions.

If you read the book and take notes, you'll leave with a wealth of advice that's so simple! If you're used to doing problem-solving in your daily life because of your job or schooling (for example, I'm a software engineer), some of this advice will seem familiar. That's probably because it is! And it never hurts to review.

For the length of the book, it's a bit expensive. For the usefulness of the content? Nearly priceless.

This book does a great job of teaching frameworks for problem solving in a simple yet effective way, I’ve come across some of the tools referenced in this book in the past and I struggled with grasping the concepts then, however this book made them easy for me to understand.
