I wanted to read this book to learn about why alcoholics 'alcoholic' ...but I realise it's not that simple.
This book kept me engaged (& I'm not a reader), I just could not put it down. Well done to the author for relaying Charlie's story so honestly.
And thank you...I understand a little bit more & will use that understanding towards the alcoholic in my life.

My Name is Charlie and I Don't Think Right (English Edition) Kindle版
Charlie is six years old when he first learns to take the edge off the day. Sniffing solvent fumes in the back of his dad’s truck. Thirty-six years later, he’s a self-made multi-millionaire, exhibited artist, absentee husband, father of four confused children and a drug addict and alcoholic. Now he’s spiralling downwards fast. The doctors have given him months to live. His wife is trying to get him sectioned. Mackenzie, his counsellor who has seen him through eight rehabs, has turned him away. She needs the bed for another alcoholic she thinks she can actually save. He flies to Miami for sunshine and AA; but Grey Goose, cocaine and a knife-wielding German woman seem a better idea.
Charlie’s not a bad man; he’s a sick man. He’s never felt in sync with life.
Charlie’s not a bad man; he’s a sick man. He’s never felt in sync with life.

I have read this book many times in the making. Each time I read it I get more from it.
It makes you laugh and my goodness it makes you cry
Apart from being a fabulous read this book has helped several people on to a path to sobriety
People who might not be here now if not for reading Charlie's story
It really IS a story of hope for the hopeless
BUT you don't need to be an addict to enjoy this book
Of course I am prejudiced but I don't think you will be disappointed

Good recovery read

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and looked forward to reading it each night; in fact went to bed early to read it. I read a lot of books around recovery and alcoholism, and I recommend this title. It’s well written, clear, precise - almost matter of fact (with crazy antics in the book) but with detailed beautiful discriptions of locations and people within the book. I think it’s an insight into what it’s like to reach the dead end of the road so-to-speak and surrender. The transformation in Charlie is magnificent and the reader grows with him on his spiritual journey. I liken this to an extremely good Chair from a likeable hard man type guy, from a tough background, insanely crazy story, eloquently told which I could sit and listen to all day.
This book presents hope to the hopeless.
Enjoy.
I hope Charlie remains sober odaat as his message is powerful. If he can change, so can you.

This is an excellent story of a man’s courageous and raw journey. I appreciate the honest and descriptive tales of the struggles and joys of someone trying to stay sober and help others.
