佐々木常夫(ささき・つねお) 1944年秋田市生まれ。6歳で父を亡くし、4人兄弟の次男として母の手ひとつで育つ。 1969年東京大学経済学部卒業、同年東レ入社。自閉症の長男に続き、年子の次男、長女が誕生。妻は、肝臓病がもとで入退院を繰り返すうち、うつ病を併発し、何度か自殺未遂をする。43回もの入院をした妻は、その後、快癒に向かい、強い絆に結ばれた家族と幸せな生活を送っている。 すべての育児・家事・看病をこなさなくてはならない過酷な日々の中でも、仕事への情熱は衰えず、大阪・東京と6度の転勤、破たん会社やさまざまな事業改革に全力で取り組み、2001年、東レ同期トップ(事務系)で取締役となり、2003年より東レ経営研究所社長(現・特別顧問)。 内閣府の男女共同参画会議議員、大阪大学客員教授などの公職も歴任。「ワーク・ライフ・バランス」のシンボル的存在である。 著書に、『部下を定時に帰す仕事術』『そうか、君は課長になったのか。』『働く君に贈る25の言葉』『これからのリーダーに贈る17の言葉』(すべて小社刊)など。
