I purchased the Deco Voice X20 to replace a TP Link M5 mesh, an echo dot and to increase throughput to my son's room.
Installation:
The installation was an absolute nightmare, usually adding a new Deco Mesh is a simple task but adding these wasted near 3 hours of my life. I ended up having to turn off the M5 mesh so that I could connect the X20 Voice to the X73 DSL (main mesh). After I figured this out it took me about 15 mins to add both X20 Voice, then plugged the M5's back in to power.
Alexa:
If you choose not to enable the Alexa on these X20 Voice, the device will prompt you to enable it every time you use an alternative Echo device in the room.
If you do actually enable the device's Alexa capabilities (I use the word capabilities very sparingly) you're very restricted on what you can actually do with the device. While this device will show up in the Alexa app as a device, you can not add this device to a Group rendering the ease of use commands like "Alexa turn on the light" useless.
Regardless of whether you decide to enable Alexa on the device or not, there's an issue that impacts the usefulness of the device. I've resorted to pressing the mute button on the X20 Voice because it kept telling me to turn the Alexa on in the app, but in doing so I now have this massive red glowing light that can not be turned off or even dimmed.
Enabling the TP Link Router skill in the Alexa App affects some ease of use commands across all the Amazon Echo's attached. If you have this skill enabled you can no longer use "Alexa turn on the lights" command because it thinks you're now referring to the lights on the Deco Voice X20. While the command "Alexa turn on the light" still works, I've formed a habit over the years to refer to the lights as lights.
I don't know who to contact about the issue I'm having, whether it be Amazon or TP-Link (I have contacted TP-Link but they seemed to have a hard time understanding what I was talking about) to get this issue fixed, and when these issue are fixed I will endeavour to update my review.
The TP Link Deco App needs to be fixed to be more responsive to changes made in the app. Completely unable to turn on the UPNP function in my X73 because the App doesn't save the change made when I enable it.
Please fix this stuff TP Link.
