Shel Silverstein's very first children's book Lafcadio, the Lion Who Shot Back was published in 1963, and followed the next year by two other books. The first of those, The Giving Tree, is a moving story about the love of a tree for a boy; it took four years before Harper Children's books decided to publish it. Shel returned to humour that same year with A Giraffe and a Half. His first collection of poems and drawings, Where the Sidewalk Ends, appeared in 1974, and his second, A Light in the Attic, in 1981. When he was a G.I. in Japan and Korea in the 1950, he learned to play the guitar and to write songs, including 'A Boy Named Sue' for Johnny Cash. In 1984, Silverstein won a Grammy Award for Best Children's Album for Where the Sidewalk Ends - 'recited, sung and shouted' by the author. He was also an accomplished playwright, including the 1981 hit, 'The Lady or the Tiger Show.' The last book to be published before he died in 1999, was Falling Up (1996).

一瞬で読みきれてしまう。翻訳版とあわせて購読しました。
何度も読んで何度も泣いたと人から聞いて興味を抱き購入したのですが、そこまでの感動は正直ありませんでした。
ですが一般的には名作なのだとは思います。

it was exactly what I wanted and makes me cry. I have an ongoing joke of trying to get people to borrow/read this book to their children. I would call it the “tear test”. It absolutely pulls at the heart strings, and is beautiful and poetic.

It only takes about 10 minutes to read and the illustrations say more than the font. A Good Reminder of why 10 minutes spent thinking about Time and how I am spending it. A childhood
favourite is even better rereading it now because it's a totally different message when I am just leaving Middle Age and entering the Rest of My Story. I was surprised to see that Shel Silverstein was on my Kindle Unlimited recommendations and the Timing was Perfect. A very good example of the importance of illustrations in literature. I Love Books and I can't wait to reread the other ebooks Silverstein has written now that I can have them on my tablet. It's great that Kindle is so good at tailoring the suggested content for Me, I would never have looked for these books on my own. No, I am Not Being Sarcastic! I am going to have to buy stuff anyway, why not have a computer, more accurate than my family members, show me the things I want.
