地球と異なる惑星。
北部ネイティブアメリカンに似た鳥人たちの里に滞在する、女性民俗学者（の卵）の記録。

作品世界を取り巻く状況は、映画『アバター』に近い。
異なるところは、主人公が女性かつ民俗学者であり、他文明への理解じたいを目的にしていること。
「原住民」の姿が青いライオン人間でなく、カラフルなオウム人間であること。
そして『アバター』での地球人類による侵略は主に武力でなされるが、本作では大規模な軍事的衝突は描かれない。

かつての列強国が、いわゆる未開の地に対して行った武力による侵略が『アバター』で描かれているのだとすれば、本作の地球人類と鳥人達の接触は、現代の先進国の文化と土着文化の対立を反映している。民俗学という視点が生まれる以前の文明の接触を描く『アバター』に対し、民俗学の視点を強く意識した本作は、より現代的だ。

漫画としての本作は、他の方が言われているように資料集的な色合いが強い。
本編の絵は非常に細かに書き込まれ、フルカラーの彩色が施されているため、全11話を通してページに対する大コマの割合が多く、ストーリーの密度はかなり抑えられている。一方、章の合間には２ページ分の文章と図による主人公の日誌と設定資料が掲載されており、読者はこれらの資料をもとに、漫画本編で紹介されるストーリーと世界観を補完しながら作品を楽しむこととなる。

しかし、この資料をいちいち読み込むとなると、漫画本編を読むのと同じかそれ以上の時間をかけねばならず、作者が「はじめに」でも触れているように、まずは漫画を一通り読み、２周目に資料を合わせて行間を読み解くのが、この作品に対する理想的な接し方である。（もちろんどう読むかは読者の自由だけど）

この物語の前後にはどういったストーリーがあるのか、鳥人達の住む世界はどんな場所なのか、そもそも地球はどうなっているのか、時間的にも空間的にも、非常に想像力を刺激される作品である。
本作の美しい紙面に設けられた行間は広く、読み解くための魅力的な手がかりが与えられている。
じっくり時間をかけて読みたい良作だ。

綺麗なマンガ、というよりも
フルカラーの設定資料集と呼ぶ方が相応しいのでは。

中身は鳥人の世界に逗留することになった女性の、
自然哲学賛美だが、結論は安易な文明批判と安直。

ただし一コマ一コマ、完成されたイラスト並みのクオリティと
圧倒的な色彩の豊潤さは素晴らしい。
