I use these as my default work from home headphones, for the simple reason they are just so comfortable for extended periods of time. The clamping force is just right and the fact that they are an open back design means my ears don't get hot or sweat. They do leak sound (as is the case with all open back headphones) but it's not an issue in a WFH situation.
They came with two different length detachable cables which gives some flexibility.
I also use these when watching movies and listening to music. They work well when plugged into a NobSound/DoukAudio NS-08E headphone amp, and also with my iPad Mini 2 and iPhone 6S. The sound quality is good, nice and detailed sound stage, overall I would rate them as neutral, definitely not boomy or too bright. But there are quite a few detailed HD599 reviews out there you can read.
The fact that they have a standard 3.5mm jack means they are so widely compatible and one reason why I don't plan to upgrade my iPad or iPhone anytime soon. Seriously Apple - if you're listening - bring back the headphone socket. Your tiny little white earbuds with the lightning connector simply cannot compete with a real audiophile-grade set of headphones.
At the price I paid here on Amazon they are fantastic value. Probably not so much at standard RRP. But if you see them cheap, definitely grab a pair. From a music perspective - yes there are better sounding headphones out there, but not many at this price (although I'd recommend you check out the Philips SHP9500 or SHP9600, also fantastic).
The only caveats - not suitable for use in a crowded office or on any form of public transport, as they don't block sound and leak sound, so those closest to you will get to hear what you hear. But given their bulk they're not really intended for portable use.
