This was, by far, one of the best anthologies I’ve ever read. Maybe none of the stories count as “great literature“ but they all count as incredibly entertaining and well worthwhile. Many ancillary aspects of the movie are creatively explored and exploited in the best possible way. My only problem now is that I’m hitting myself for binging on it and reading the entire book in 10 hours.

But in this case you know the background and the world they're set making the book run seamlessly and satisfying. All the stories do the concept of the movies credit and hopefully there'll be similar follow ups

Many of the stories in this book, including one's by Jonathan Maberry and George Romero himself, are set either as the Outbreak which leads to "Night" begins, or "at some point around "Dawn" and "Day". One direct follow-on see's how the pilot and soldier who attempt to escape "Dawn" succeed or fail. Another see's what happened to the people who didn't get on the helicopter which the news team escapes in in "Dawn". One story explores a possible origin for what happened when a NASA mission goes very wrong and a satellite registers an impact and then a fast-developing mass INSIDE it on it's way back to Earth. The military want to blow it up, NASA wants to see what it is, people have guns and no idea what's happening before the whole worlds starts to go cold... Jonathan Maberry has Joe Ledger and his top team, 15 years later, caught out-of-country when the whole world changes overnight. The mission is relatively simple: rescue the President from an Infected-overrun city. The problem? Even Ledger and his team are in over their heads on this one... If you like zombies stories, you'll love this.

I've been on a horror anthology kick as of late. This is one of the best collections I've read in the past year. It's a magnificent tribute to George Romero, and it's worth buying simply for his heartfelt introduction, which pays tribute to all the zombie obsessed writers who came after him. I'd have to say that my favorite story was by Mike Carey (also known, pseudonymously, as MR Carey, author of The Girl With All The Gifts.) His story is not so much a horror story as it is a tale of lost, and regained love. How that love is regained (by what some may call a cold and calculating, but loving scientist) is a remarkable story. And the writing is impeccable. I really can't reccomend it highly enough. "A Dead Girl Named Sue" is another winner.
