　空手の黒帯を取得していながらも私立高校の英語教師という職業に就いていた主人公が、仕事で赴いたイギリスでの人との出会いや様々な逡巡を経て人生という冒険に身を投じていく物語である。
　主人公の石上直人は英語教師として生徒のイギリスでの英語研修旅行の引率でイギリスに赴くことになる。そして現地の空手道場でジョージという青年と親しくなり、帰国後も交流を続ける。そのうち数年経つと、ジョージは黒帯を取得し、現地で複数の道場を経営するほどの裕福な成功者となる。直人はジョージからの熱い誘いを受けて、自らも安定した教師の職を投げ打ってイギリスでの空手道場を立ち上げるという夢に向かって突き進んでいく。しかし、現実は厳しく、ジョージという親友がいるといっても、言語の違い、文化の違い、歴史の違いというバックボーンによって苛まれる日々が続く。とはいえ、妻の由美の支えもあって、決死の思いで行った空手のデモンストレーションや不断の努力で新しい道場にも生徒が増え、希望の光も見え始める。
　ところがその後、ある事情で無念の帰国を余儀なくされ、直人は一時的に打ちひしがれるが、そこからまた一念発起してイギリスの空手道場への思いを封印しながら再度、正規の英語教師を目指して努力していく。この時はまだ直人の本当の望みを叶える方向へ向かっているとは思っていなかったのだった。

小説の形式をとっているが、ほぼ著者の実体験をもとにしているようである。(イギリスでの著者自身の写真が途中、2度程出てくる。)
空手道場を開いた著者の悪戦苦闘の様子が細かく描かれ、海外、特にイギリスでのビジネスを考えている人には最適の読み物と言える｡
教育者でもある著者の「自らの姿で示す」教育観からも学ぶことが多い。
楽しく読めて、益の多い小説である。

繊細な筆致は波乱に満ちた筆者の人生を追体験させ、英国文化の実情を巧みに描写する。空手に賭けた男の生き様に思わず胸が熱くなった。官能的な描写には筆者の情熱と作家としての矜持がうかがえる。日英を跨ぐ圧巻のヒューマンドラマに読者を誘なってやまぬ不朽の大冒険記。
