I'm Batman

By day, I'm a mild-mannered business professional, balancing the demands of work and family. But by night, I transform into a caped crusader of the written word, fighting the forces of mediocrity and boredom with my trusty pen.

I'm not quite Batman, of course. I don't have a butler or a Batmobile, and I'm not very good at fighting crime. But I do have a passion for storytelling, and I use my writing skills to create worlds and characters that will transport readers on adventures they'll never forget.

So whether you're looking for a thrilling escape or a heartwarming read, I invite you to step into my stories and discover the magic of imagination.

P.S. I'm still working on the crimefighting part.

If you are a fan of:

✔️Cozy Mystery
✔️Small town vibes
✔️Poirot MC energy

Suicide in Suffolk is Dom’s debut novel and I loved it!

You had me with the short chapter sequences, quirky and relatable main characters, and an intriguing small town mystery.

I’m notorious for having zero idea of who the baddie or suspect is, and this book kept me in the dark until the end.

Please write a spin off series featuring more Cecil with a sprinkle of Keeley.
Like now. I’ll wait.

An awesome weekend read for the beach, in your favourite comfy chair or lounging in the park.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to believe this is the author's first book

"Suicide in Suffolk" is an electrifying debut that grips you from the first page and refuses to let go. Ayres crafts a compelling narrative filled with suspense, intricate characters, and unexpected twists. I'm not a big reader yet the short chapters help me focus, keeps the pace, and wanting more. I'm only half way through and so far I'm appreciating the meticulous attention to detail, making it a seamless and unputdownable read.

Cozy Reader Lady
4.0 out of 5 stars A Cozy Mystery with a hint of Police Procedural Mystery
Reviewed in the United States on 4 January 2024

"Suicide in Suffolk" by D. Ayres is a non traditional cozy mystery with a hint of police procedural. I enjoyed the two main characters and the back and forth in their perspectives was really quite smooth. That can be somewhat jumpy writing wise sometimes. There were a couple moments that it was a little bit but it didn't last long. Mostly when it was someone other than the two main characters' perspectives.

The mystery was also a little bit different in that it was a male main character that was the civilian sleuth (one with a particular set of skills that helped a bit) and a female cop as the other main character. I enjoyed this duo and I kinda hope they get to team up again. They both had different aspects of the clues, which I wish they did a little more sharing of but I get it. It's a first book where they meet and get to establish each other's reliability/skills.

I wont say much about the solving of the mystery since it may give too much away. However, even though I was right in the end I was bouncing around in who it could be. I would think it was one person then, nope!

One last note. This is set in England so you get a lot of terms they use there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Storyline is rather far fetched

We all know you have to suspend disbelief when reading a work of fiction and whilst there was real merit in this book there were too many 'leaps' in the plotline and gaps in the narrative.
I found myself rereading a few pages several times to make sure that I hadnt missed some fact or other - but I hadnt.
But all credit to someone who can actually write a novel and hopefully the author will tighten up on their next work!

The story-line was good, albeit far-fetched but the dialogues were poorly written. It's not necessary when a conversation is between two people to keep saying who is speaking. However, as this is the author's first book I award him a well earned four star rating and urge him to keep writing.

I stumbled across this whilst looking for an easy read for a holiday. It’s written well and kept me interested throughout. Can’t wait to see if there’s a sequel!
